 An open bar is one of the allures of attending a wedding to many people. After spending what can feel like a small fortune on hotel, airfare, wedding gifts and other traveling expenses; it’s nice to have a few drinks on the house and really feel like you’re on vacation. If you know you are going to have a drinking crowd consider these tips to create an awesome open bar your guests won’t forget.

1.)     A Specialty Drink – It is great to have a specialty drink for guests who would love to have something refreshing after the ceremony but aren’t sure what they want. A colorful and tropical drink is usually a big hit like Rum Punch, Key Lime Cooler, Margarita or even Sex on the Beach.

2.)    Creative Liquor Choices- Your guests are on vacation and may be willing to try something new. It is the worst to have to worry about running out of these items, not only is it not a good idea to run to the store once everyone’s started drinking but there may not even be a store to run to within 20 minutes of you! In the keys stores close early and are not close by.

4.)    Its better to have more than less –  Since you can never be sure if your guests will be drinking wine or switch it up to cocktails it’s always a good idea to get a little more than you need. If you’re worried about your budget try working with a local liquor store, most will let you return unused bottles of wine and liquor.

5.)    Champagne Toast – Even if you don’t plan on many of your guests drinking champagne throughout the night it is nice to get 1 bottle per 8-10 people. This will be just enough to give each guest a sip to celebrate after the toasts are made.

Wedding Wishing Tree

If you are looking to step away from the bland tradition of a guest book, consider a wishing tree. This unique idea is fun, beautiful and easy to create on a budget. You simply place loose branches or lighted ones found at most craft stores into a vase and place on your sign in table where your card box and name cards are(if you have them.) On the table you lay out little tags, you can make these with cardstock and decorative stamps or find cute ones on etsy.com. Your guests will write a special wish for the bride and groom and then hang it on the branches to create a tree full of loving messages.
